Not a "fun" thing to watch, but few very important things are.

It is important to understand why some of your customers are opting out of having protector applied. They may not tell you why, but often this is the reason.

The trend toward cleaning customers forgoing protective treatments varies by region of the country, and more specifically the worldview of the customer.

I'm finding that cleaners are becoming more aware of this issue, even ahead of their customers. I have a customer in Montana and one in Maryland who went PFAS free with their protectors without customer demand.

In other areas, designers are becoming more aware of the issue, and those selling protection through their customer base are needing to move to PFAS free products.

I am also saddened when I see PFAS products still being sold in, or shipped into, states that have forbidden their use in those states.

For other reasons I had a blood panel done this week which you would think with indicate that I've ingested far too many Teflon smoothies over the years but I'm healthy as a horse other than a slightly low testosterone count.

Which I'll blame on leaving the Republican party...😉

At this risk of further derailing this important thread:

A surprisingly amount of IICRC instructors who teach (or taught) restoration subjects, and had a history of providing those services, show antibodies for exposure to exposure to one or mulitple of the hepatitis alphabet soup of virus when having health checks related to life insurance coverage.

I have no doubt that a history of exposure to category 3 water intrusion and trauma scene cleanup in the days before PPE was an understood need put them in that position. No doubt plumbers are also in that category.

Food for thought for anyone performing those services who don't worry about PPE

OK, back to:

"Why your customers are scared of protector, and what to do about it"

I’m receiving testosterone therapy also, and I’m still staunchly conservative. For reasons lost to even myself, I’ve never sold protectants to my customers and I’ve never stored them in my place of business. I tend to lean towards heavenly guidance as an explanation. I have had melanoma taken through surgery in the past, and my surgeon said chemical exposure during the course of my life was the probable cause. So, there’s a good chance that my presprays and rinses caused it. I’ve also developed asthma and sensitivity to odors in my later years, which I also attribute to the same chemical exposures. I’ve lived a good long productive life with financial, family and spiritual rewards. I owe carpet cleaning a portion of the success I’ve experienced. My son is now carrying on my business and will likely experience some of the same physical challenges I’m facing as a result. I see no way for him to carry on a successful cleaning business without the chemical exposure I’ve experienced. If a workable solution is found, I’ll be the first to encourage their use in his business.

Ive never sold protectants eighter but not for health reasons.where i live the air temp averages around 58° with a relitave humidity of 85%addind a gallon extra moisture for every 400 sqft isn't a smart move if drying is important plus the fact that in the 80s and 90's soil retardants were marketed and sold to me to sell to my customers to sell to customers to "boost profits ". That alone left a bad taste in my mouth

He has the choice to design a client base that does not require butyl, enzymes or anything remotely toxic.

But he'll need to get you off the payroll or move to a greener conscious area to take that income hit.
