I'm meeting up with Jim tomorrow in San Diego for Lisa Wagner's fine fabric rug textile Pro sort of event and we're going to shoot a bunch of video around the Jubilee on Saturday and I'm going to do a bunch of bike riding and discovery of the city as well as do a presentation on the cleaning standard.com.

This whole trip is off to a good start..

Yesterday Ali called about a Hole Glide for his Prochem Titanium. Said his wand had suddenly become almost impossible to push.
I gave him the price. He said business has been slow and he’d have to think about it.
Before I even set the phone down, he called back.
He’s 75. Had a stroke a couple months ago. Still working. Still cleaning. Still pushing.
He sent photos of his current Glide. It was worn nearly flat. But the “sudden” difficulty didn’t quite add up, so instead of selling him something, we started troubleshooting.
Old BlueLine ThermalWave. Bought used last year with 1,700 hours.
We went through screenshots and diagrams until we found the vacuum relief valve hiding under what he described as a “shoe polisher.” Checked filters. Talked airflow. I sent him the ThermalWave manual off Mikey’s Board and told him to print and bind it so he’d have it in the van.
Somewhere in the middle of all that I asked where he was located.
“San Diego.”
I laughed.
“I’ll be in San Diego tomorrow.”
I told him if he wanted to save shipping, I could just bring the Glide with me.

He laughed and said it would cost him more in gas to come get it than the shipping would cost.
He was right.

Many phone calls later he said he wanted to do something nice for me as we've never met and he's never bought anything from me before yet I spent over an hour with him on this..

Turns out he’s picking me up at the airport. His cleaning van big enough for my bike case and suitcase. He’s stopping at a grocery store for me so I can stock up my room. And tomorrow we’re going to figure out what’s really going on with that truck mount.
He mentioned to me his whole life has been about paying it back, helping people and going out of his way to do the right thing...

Amen!
