I just got my first bad check... What now?

Anyway, I knew better but I took a MMM job from a "never heard of 'em" mom & pop out of town MMM by the name of Ap*x Cl*aning Syst*ms & Prot*ctor Building S*rvic*s. Took a good amount of time to cut a check & then when they did pay... Well, they didn't really pay.

out of state, or just out of town?

Whatever bank the checking account is with, hopefully there's a local bank branch near you.
if so, call them and find out if it's an open account.
if an open account, ask if funds are available to cover the check.
If so, drive down there and get your dough.

If not, call everyday til funds are available, then go get your dough.

they won't tell you how much is in the account, but will tell you if funds to cover the check are available.
if it made out in your name, you'll get cash.
if made out in your company name, you'll get a cashiers check payable to the Co

send the stiff a bill for the bad check fee

Yep. That is the best way to get your money. Up until the account is closed. Then follow protocal for bad checks in your state.

Any way thanks Larry. I sent him this:

And I'll be contacting the bank as you suggested. I'll also be contacting the bank that the work was performed at if payment isn't in hand by 4/24... I'm sure they'll be uber happy with him after I tell them that I'm filing a lein on their building.
