I've got this job to do. I've done a small test using a butane torch but is slow and tedious.

Adjuster does NOT want to replace anything, because that will open a whole can of worms with compliance issues, not just for this wood burner, but also for a numbe rof things in the home if we have to get a building inspector involved because of flue replacement.

He is hoping for a semi successful attempt at removing the plastic and then having an onsite company re spray the flue.

Any suggestions that may be more effective than a butane torch?

Automatic fly spray unit.

I tested 4 different solvents to no avail.

Heat allows (possibly) for no refinishing, sanding will regardless require re spraying.

trying to keep my options open at this stage.

Well, it's done. I used a butane torch and melted a small area at a time and wiped the molten plastic off and moved on. Basically had to do it twice, initial got 90% and then final got the last bit.

Not perfect, but it's up the the client and the adjuster to work out, he's offering a re spray of both the flue and the grill.
