Why would a bag vac miss a lot?
Because you cannot see when and when you aren't getting any soil. With a bag vac you will simply vacuum what you see ON the carpet and "assume" that you pulled all the soil OUT of the carpet. From my experience of having to move a vacuum very slowly over an area, and then to repeat that, and then I still see soil coming out, a bag vacuum is going to miss over 50% of the dry particulates.

It will filter the air very well of what it does pick up but what's the sense in having a great filter when leaving more soil IN the carpet than what you removed?
