This is always my biggest struggle

I hate having equipment not being used or turning away work... I have had a hard time finding guys! Anyone have any success? I have listed on indeed done Facebook and next door looking to hire... I start off above min wage and offer more for experience! Any input would be great

It's a problem all over. Pay is part of it, you're going to have to pay way more or have some incentive to draw them in. One incentive could just be flexible hours?

We are paying our student workers $8.00 and can't find many willing to work for that. I'm going to need at least a dozen come fall.

I talked with the manager of food services and he told me they are having trouble too but are starting pay at $10.00 with a free meal come fall.

I told my director we need to do something or we will won't get any students this fall.

When they can work at Walmart or Target for $10.00-$12.00 and not sweat, forces higher pay for labor intensive jobs.

I’m not convinced it’s a pay issue...

I think the job isn’t sexy no one wants to do it... I have offered high pay and still low responses...

I am starting to think no one wants to work and if they do they just want an easy job with flexible hours... pay isn’t first

I agree they want it easy. Carpet cleaning isn't.

Its hot, hard work...which is going to require better pay than they can get with a retail job in the AC not sweating.

What ways have you found success finding guys?

Nothing that was continuous successful. We had a standing order with a temp agency. Anyone they would trust in their home we were interested in.

We got several that way and some turned into long time employees. Most stayed for a while and then moved on.

Hired a pair away from the sandwich shop my brother would frequent for lunch. They stayed for several years.

I think that might be a good option. Find someone already with a job and with customer skills and hire them into the industry.

I start my janitors at $12 and floor guys $15. If we have weekend cleanups after events, $25 an hr. Minimum 3 hrs. Mostly 4. Still not easy in this climate, but have managed throughout this school year again. Floor guys and carpet cleaners are the same.

even before covid, any quality prospects were already working.
Those that weren't working aren't worth a chit

I don't know what "above min wage" means.
but any job that doesn't have the potential to be a "livable" wage, forget about finding anything but illegal Hondurans or some kind of dysfunctional that likely won't pass a background check or drug test , doesn't have a car or DL and may or may not be ready for work when someone picks him up.

because...who the hell is dumb enough to clean carpet when burger joints, line cooks and walmarts pays $3 to $5 bukz an hour more than min wage

That some hefty pay BUTT, for a sharp dependable technician with lots of potential, he would be worth it.

Of course you couldn't have him holding hose for long. He would need to be fast tracked to running his own truck.

We've found that we have to run several different ads that are tailored to different types of people, neat freaks, workout fiends..., we'll get a few responses to each.



At this point, our potential market for employees is exceptionally thin thanks to COVID handouts. People could make more money working, but nothing beats day trading while getting paid to do nothing.

I went to AZ two weeks ago and found the restaurants in Phoenix mostly close at 8PM. For lack of employees, not customers. A 400 room hotel was full at 75 rooms because they couldn't find staff to take care of more. Many shops and services had reduced hours or menus, all claiming the same shortage of employees.

The border is wide open though, so maybe offer ESL as a benefit?

I don't know, cause I'm a pi55poor businessman.
But not sure how it would be "failure" if your after expenses and taxes income can increase to a level your comfortable with and grow enough at minimum to stay ahead of inflation

I guess you’d make it a quarterly bonus for just showing up. 12k a year just to show up. Plus “above” minimum wage.
I agree with a previous post. The best employee is already working somewhere else.
