Fuel pump died

So my fuel pump with 124 hours died. It was one those auto zone pumps. Had to get another one but I would like to replace it with one that is not going to die so quick. It is mounted in the back of the inside of the van by the gas tank. It is a extended van so it has 14 ft to the machine. Is that to far to push the fuel?

Thank You

No, but I doubt that is 14'. I have an extended Ford with the same pump mounted UNDER the van near the filler neck. About 4 or 5 ft to push it. Lasts for many years, but I also carry a spare on the truck.

Autozone pumps are typically airtex - airtex is common oem option for TM manufacturers.

I'd take it back for exchange - sounds more like you have a bad one. If you kill another in short order, you have another problem.

Do you have a filter before the pump? Did you check to see if it was restricted at all?

My gas tank is all the way in the back. It's a dodge.

It has the filter that comes with it. I think I will add on before the pump. I have one at the engine too.

Be sure it is well grounded. Run a wire back to the battery.

Make sure the fuel line is large enough. Too much restriction from flow can burn up the pump.

That's probably your problem. Sucked up some junk, killed the pump. Put the filter on before it. Also - your TM should be powering and grounding the pump - not the van.

I will run the ground from the tm frame to the pump and add a a filter before the pump. The fuel line is 1/4" id.
Should I go bigger on the fuel line?
