New developments...

Steve Andrews will be doing a carpet repair "mini seminar". It's shaping up to be on Friday the 28th, because Saturday will be pretty truckmount- focused, all things considered.

As things are now, John Mattick, who is with R.E.P., the company that is the Roots rep for the Atlanta area, will be there Saturday. He will do a presentation on rotary lobe blowers (how they work, maintenance, DSL vs. grease, bi lobe vs. tri lobe, etc.) and will also do a presentation on principles of airflow. We hope to have him on hand for the airflow testing and evaluations, to make sure that everything is set up properly and interpreted accurately.

With Friday becoming a day of activity, vs. just showing up and getting acquainted, this may expand to Thursday being "casual day", so to speak.

I'm still working some of this out as you can see.

Tomorrow, I go to LaQuinta, Comfort Inn, Quality Inn and Holiday Inn, to see what deals we can get. They are all "a stone's throw" from each other and at the end of the driveway for Dave and Buster's. So it's a matter of which one has the best accommodations, pricing, etc.

More later.

Friday, Aug. 28:

10:30 AM to 12:30 PM

Paul “The Gadget Man” Brown
will do an upholstery cleaning mini workshop. Paul is the owner of Certified Cleaning and Restoration, Inc., in Santa Rosa, CA. His customers compose a true "who's who" in his area- consisting of many high- end residences and some wineries, among others. Paul has a keen interest in whatever new technology can make his services easier to provide and he invents some of them himself. (A quick search of Paul's posts on ICS will give you insight into the wealth of knowledge that Paul has and freely makes available to people in the industry- cleaners and manufacturers alike.) He'll be available for whatever questions you come up with as well.

This workshop will focus on upholstery cleaning and highlight some of the unique ideas Paul has encountered or developed in that area. If you find upholstery cleaning to be tedious and cumbersome, you don’t want to miss this one.

FOOD: We'll be serving authentic Mexican fajitas on Friday. Our next door neighbors have graciously offered to do the cooking if we supply the "goods". I've smelled their cooking many times and been drooling over them for some time now. So I couldn't say, "No" to this.

1:00 PM to 2:00 PM

Kohler representative Greg Dupree will do a presentation on engine maintenance and longevity. He will also talk about new Kohler engines currently being offered and even newer ones about to be released. Greg will also be available for whatever questions you come up with related to his area of expertise.

2:30 PM to 5:30 PM

Steve Andrews will do a carpet repair mini workshop
, highlighting Berber Repairs, Bonded Inserts ("Patches") & Seam Repairs- featuring the Kool Glide seam iron technology. Here's a video of a rug he decided to do for me, using the logo from my "previous incarnation" for inspiration. (He'll be showing you how to do things like this as well.)

2]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=osc3D2YxNYU2]

Steve is a long-term veteran of the cleaning industry, with over 35 years experience. He has owned and operated a multi-truck cleaning business, a Full-Service Distribution Center for the Cleaning and Restorations Industry, trained housekeeping departments in the care and maintenance of everything from concrete steps, carpet, and upholstery to mattresses and ovens.

Steve is a practicing senior inspector and is also a Master Cleaner with many areas of certifications; Water Damage, Odor Control, Repair & Re-installation, Color Repair, Certification Number 240. He has been actively traveling and teaching IICRC Certification Classes for the last ten years and his focus is to assist the new student, as well as the seasoned veteran, to set themselves apart as the premier cleaner in their area.

Attendees who wish to purchase a Kool Glide will receive a substantial discount* off of the retail price and we have a tentative agreement with the distributor to have one that we can give away for free, if enough people participate! Steve also has a line of videos of him doing various carpet repair tasks, that he'll be offering at special pricing* while there.

Attend this special event and not only will you learn about carpet repair, but we will share fantastic information about special tools and tricks that will help you to start making more money the very next time you have a repair job!

In addition to very special pricing, there will be training and marketing information to help you put these techniques to work FAST and...

A free "Carpet Patch Tool and Training DVD" will be given away as a door prize.

If you are ready to take the next step and learn how to become a Carpet Repair Specialist, this is THE event you won't want to miss!!

[center:2gn2yxq2]* These special arrangements will only be good for those present at this event-
and trust me, the savings available to you will go a long way to paying for the trip![/center:2gn2yxq2]

7:00 PM to 9:00 PM

Dinner at Marietta Fish Market Marietta Fish Market 3185 Canton Road Marietta GA 30066

This isn't "just another seafood place". Jerry Tillem, my friend, is a helluva gourmet chef in his own right. He and his business partner, Gus, own the place, along with Cherokee Cattle Company (a steak house), Marietta Diner (eclectic menu), and Pasta Bella (similar to Marietta Diner, with more of an Italian emphasis.). (Marietta Diner was recently featured on the Food Network show, "Diners, Drive- In's and Dives".) And he's a stickler for prompt, efficient, satisfaction guaranteed service. No questions asked.

The food is simply awesome and the desserts are world- class and huge...! And they have a full bar that stays busy. When he was building the place, I asked him how it would compare to a Red Lobster and he got all insulted. Now I know why.

Their menu is on their site... Check it out...! http://www.mariettafishmarket.net/dinnermenu.php

We need an accurate idea of who can make the Friday dinner at the Fish market. They have a 45 minute to an hour waiting list on Fridays and seating is a big deal there. I spoke with Jerry about it and he said that they'd hold whatever we need, but it needs to be accurate... and on time.

Saturday, Aug. 29:

10:30 AM to 12:30 PM

Dresser- Roots representative John Mattick will talk about vacuum and airflow efficiency, in preparation for the testing and evaluation that we will be doing later that afternoon. He will also do a presentation on rotary lobe blowers, blower maintenance and the various types of blowers, including bi-lobe, tri-lobe, Roots wisp air, dual splash lubrication and others. If you've ever had a blower- related question, now is the time to get it answered. John is a super- personable guy in addition to being one of the sharpest people I've ever met in the area of "airflow".

[center:2gn2yxq2]FOOD: There will be a cookout throughout the day, with hamburgers, authentic German beer brats, hot dogs, fries and more.[/center:2gn2yxq2]

1:00 PM to 3:00 PM

Systems demonstration, and airflow evaluations. We’ll be doing A / B hose comparisons between 2”, 2.5” and (2) 2” hoses in parallel, different lengths of hose, different wands and more, using airflow meters, anemometers, etc. And we'll be revealing a new approach to airflow efficiency that Paul Brown has recently come up with. (You don't want to miss this. It's seriously impressive.)

Bring your own system and see how it really measures up! $100 Accelerated gift certificate to you, if your van is judged to be the most tricked- out for carpet and restoration work. Also, the "messiest" van will earn the owner a $50 certificate from Accelerated and a free car wash and wax at a local car wash. So will the "cleanest".

The idea here is to educate people as to what's really going on, so that they'll actually understand their own systems. In setting up detailed tests that isolate variables, we'll know precisely what's happening to get the results we see. At the same time, we won't let this get long, tedious and boring. It's all about enjoyment as much as anything, ultimately.

I have no agenda here, by the way. I don't sell glides, push large- diameter hose or parallel hose runs. It's a personal area of preferences for most people and I think that the customer should make up their own mind. But it is necessary to be "educated", so that you know with certainty what you're working with and what you're talking about. So one theme of this will be "education".

At the same time, we'll have on hand an oil- fired Dominator 3047 system I'm building for a guy, that will be plumbed in 3" hose, and connected to an UltraFlow filter with (2) 2" wand ports. The filter introduces no measurable airflow restriction, so it will be ideal for evaluating parallel hookups and single 2" hose hookups as well.

The driveway to our place is pretty long. I haven't measured it, but it's at least 300 feet. So, that gives us the advantage of being able to do a straight hose run and eliminate the influence of coiled hoses from the evals we do.

And, "Yes.", results will be published immediately.

7:30 PM Until…

Dave and Buster’s

Saturday night, it's Dave and Buster's. In case that doesn't mean anything to you, it's like a huge indoor entertainment complex, complete with dinner theater, bars, pool tables, restaurants and video arcades.

http://www.daveandbusters.com/

And it shares the driveway with the Comfort Inn that we're recommending people stay at. (So you can walk, if you're so inclined. It's safer than drinking and driving for everyone.)

Sunday...

I've worked out every detail for you here. The Comfort Inn is also within easy walking distance of the Crachker Barrell restaurant at the intersection of Delk Rd. and Franklin. They have "down home" cooking and serve breakfast as well all day. So, sleep in late and get a good breakfast whenever you feel like it...!

Accommodations for the Accelerated Atlanta Gathering have been worked out with:

Comfort Inn
2100 Northwest Parkway
Marietta, GA. 30067

Rates are: $55 for a Queen bed room and $65 for a double

Call Amy Thompson at (678) 385-3002 to book. (You have to do it through her.)

Fon is probably going to be here. He's the tile guy, but we don't have any tile here to clean, so it's kind of a moot point.

One thing that we will be doing, if Lee Stockwell shows up (and he says that he will be here, BTW), is doing an "off the wall" spotting demo, using his favorite, "non IICRC recognized" (or sponsored) chem's, like WD-40 and whatever else he shows up with.

Just so everyone knows some of what will be going on during Duane's event Friday with the repair presentation. We will definitely be 'GIVING AWAY FOR FREE' a Brand New KOOL GLIDE! Someone will be taking this home, this is being donated by Interlink Supply. This is for real. There will also be some other tools and Videos that will be available as well as some for door prizes.

We will have a little part on 'Find the Repair' that should be a little fun. We will be showing some seam repairs; pulled rows in Berber repairs; and a few others.

We will have some real specials on repair tools so if you ever wanted to have some of these tools, come prepared to buy and if things work out, we may even give away a second Kool Glide on me! One Kool Glide giveaway is a definite the second is a strong possibility.

We will try to make this fun and educational.

35 at last count. But that was a few days ago and several have said they'll be here since then- some bringing others as well.

My guess is that we'll have about 50.

But I've been getting the number off of every CC truck I see and calling it, to get new people. And we just did a mail out to 1,030 carpet care companies within driving distance, so it's anybody's guess...

I'm sorry I won't be able to be there, have a trip to Indianapolis to make.

It was good seeing you and your hard-working lady Friday night. Your shop will be nice when it is finished, lots of space finally.

Thanks,
Lee

Things got pretty busy.

John Mattick, our Roots rep, called me Thursday to apologize for having to cancel. His largest customer, a multi- million dollar account, started up a new factory and John had to go to North Carolina to make sure that all went well.

So, I called Rick Gelinas, to see if he'd like to fill in with a presentation on Encapping. Rick sent one of his guys up, who subsequently got a late start because Steve's workshop, which was supposed to be Friday, happened Saturday instead.

Basically, Paul Brown did such a great job of his presentation on upholstery cleaning Friday, that he ran longer than expected on Day 1 and still had lots to talk about that didn't get covered. He did an encore later to fill in some space when several new people showed up, and was requested AGAIN Saturday...

Steve Andrews did an Intro on Day 1 just before we broke for dinner at Marietta Fish Market.

Day 2 (Saturday), Steve Andrews did his presentation (which was outstanding, by the way) on Berber repair and Kool Glide technology.

The Encap presentation was next. And once it was over, Paul started back, that time, using a truck mount to clean, as a way to segway into truck mounts. And by the time we actually got started on demo's, the day was almost over.

Paul was my biggest help at the event, filling in as needed and asking what else he could do. My girlfriend Lynn actually started getting ill with something about 4 days before and simply couldn't make it there to help. She spent most of the weekend in bed. Her son, Taylor, who works as my assistant, was the gopher for the event and had more than he could handle at times. And my good friend Ted, who has designed and built truck mounts for longer than I have (and who does all of my AutoCAD work), was there to do things around the shop that would have kept me distracted otherwise.

Roots took longer to set up with than expected. It wasn't the set- up that took time, but the delivery after set- up. (We changed to Roots, because I want to use DSL blowers and can't get them through Tuthill.) So, we actually got blowers 2 days before the event, which threw production way behind what I wanted.

Next time, we'll do 3 days- not 2. And I'll have everything set in motion better, with more help in the area of organization.

Fun, aint it Duane?

Yeah. It's as much about being flexible and having contingencies as it is anything else, in terms of getting an event like this together.

We'll do another one, probably early Spring, like March. And lessons learned at this one will be applied there.

Thanks.
