Wool and jute area rug with urine spots

Hey folks, Mikey's son here. We just brought this area rug back to shop and it has some concerning issues. It's cut pile wool with jute or seizl being the tan portions. It has some notable urine spots and the jute areas are showing to bleed very easily with just warm one earth. Any help is appreciated

The one earth products and Procyon, although rated wool safe are not appropriate for wool area rugs. Use something like prochem fine fabric prespray, maybe further soured with an acid product, followed by an acid rinse. pH about 5-6. Rug needs to be dried quickly to avoid browning.

Thanks Ofer, I've only used one of their products, which was supposed to be similar to Procyon. Looks like an interesting product.

Is a ph of 5 low enough to neutralize that urine and stabilize those colors? That might be your problem. The ph it's currently in could be as high as 12, which is the cause of the dye bleeding.

2-3ph all fiber rinse from chemspec would've been my first try

You have a combination of things to consider: Jute, sisal, hemp and other plant fibers don't hold color well. Even if those colors don't stick to surrounding fibers during cleaning, they will come out of the plant fiber unevenly. As blotchy as this rug is already that might not matter.

You don't mention construction. If the rug is hand-knotted, you can immersion clean it once you've gotten an OK from the customer about the potential color loss or bleeding.

If it is tufted or hand-loomed (with a backing glued on) you can't immerse it without creating other problems, such as latex color wicking up the fiber. Surface cleaning won't get the urine out, so a tufted rug with plant fibers in the face and in this condition is disposable, no matter what they paid for it.

PS: The shiny white fiber is most likely rayon, hidden on the label by a non-legal fake fiber name. Nothing you can do with stained rayon, it may turn yellow just from water contact, and will wick latex color faster than any other fiber.

Nice. Though it looks like a hand-knotted rug it is most likely hand-loomed. No issues with latex, but everything else applies.

Hand-loomed rugs are weak, so can tear if moved when wet or when hung to dry.

how about putting a Water Claw behind those two smallish pee puddles and blowing an acid rinse (truckmount) through them....?

Could work. We've seen about 20% of rug rayon turn permanently yellow after getting wet, and it looks just like pee stains. I'd suggest letting the customer know what might happen first.

We'd wash it and dry from the back flat with a sheet. Take a class.
