My mother passed away in 98 and my father in 03.
The last few years my father would ride on the truck with me and keep me company.
After he died I took his body and had it stuffed. It's a hoot when people walk into my house and see ole' Pop sitting in a recliner in the corner.
We often have long one sided conversations about things and such. He really goes wild when the Packers are on TV and I have to tell him to keep it down. Around the holidays I usually dress him up so he feels special. There are days when I take him outside and sit him under a tree and watch the squirrels climb all over him. I often tell him of my dreams of running for president and turning the country around. He just smiles....my ole' Pop!

MY Father owned Italian restaurants and bars in the 80's and 90's he also had a large cocaine dealing operation and casino in the restaurant. He never went to prison thank god, My parents were divorced and I lived with my father grand father and uncle in that nut house. I was treated like a man from the age of 10yrs old on. The fun and antics that went on in that house and at their bars was amazing and I would never change a thing. My father now is 58 and he is not a womanizing gangster any more. He exercises and drinks vodka and wine everyday lol but he is in good shape and he is my best friend.

Parents are both seventy. Dad retired printing salesmen. Mom retired school teacher. They help run a antique store. Dad golfs everyday til it snows. I cleaned the carpets in their motor home last week they tried to pay me. I told them I only take money from them when Im broke. They got lucky I had money last week so it was free. They are going to Disney World with us next week. My dad is more excited then my three kids. My parents are proud of me as it only took 7 and a half years of college to become The Greatest Carpet Cleaner On The Planet.

If you're the praying or spiritual type, my Dad could use some vibes sent his way right now..

Congenital heart failure and a host of other shit has him down an out in the Dallas VA ICU..

If they don't force feed him air 100% its all over with.

Sorry to hear this Mikey and can empathize. My dad went in for rotator cuff surgery at the beginning of the week and then over night contracted pneumonia. He has been struggling to breath all week as well.

It is hard to try and talk with him on the phone struggling to breath.

My dad called me while I was setting up on the parade route, and didn't get the chance to call him back today.

I hope things get better. Just hard to deal with these matters as well as the rest of everyday life.

Our best to you and the family in this difficult time.

So sorry for the pain. I had great parents, both gone now.

I miss talking shop with my dad, answering Mom's calls for crossword help and the great examples they lived.

They live on in grandchildren's smiles and memories that won't die.

Sorry to hear of the troubles...I'm sure it is tough to see parents aging..

Sometimes I wonder if its better for me to not be able to see my dad getting old and weak.

I guess there is no good way to have it...young or old- same end result...same pain.

Prayed for him.

I'll be praying for him and you Mike.

My dad died unexpectedly one night Dec 2010. There was no saying goodbye for anyone.
I was able to be with my mom for a few days in the hospital before she died. They were both about 72.
I called them every Sunday night, talk about what was happening in their life and mine.

Dad was an electrician, wired the house and barn when wires were first strung in southern Ontario, then the neighbours wanted theirs done, and away he went. He always did things the way they should be done whether it cost him more or not. Great with a joke and a pun. Mom stayed home to raise us kids, drove schoolbus, sold Avon, Amway, Tupper Ware, anything to bring in a few extra dollars. They were married 48yrs, 5 kids, 14 grandkids, and they would have about 19 great grandkids. Most popular people in my area, big hearts.

Mike,
I really enjoyed spending some time with you dad at the Dallas CAD. He was a very cool guy. I loved the story of the pen. I am the praying type and will definitely have him in my prayers today.
