Does anybody offer a white cloth guarantee and what has been your results? A company offered it here 20 years ago. But, it put them out of business.

Think this is more important to carpet cleaners then homeowners....

Most homeowners i meet are more interested in contractors passing the smell test IE- take a shower, wear clean ironed clothes, clean van/tools, etc.
Oh and won't go lurking around their private stuff or checking out the daughter.

I was going to offer double their money back if the client can find any soil what so ever after wiping their just cleaned carpet with a white cloth. A company used to do that here a few years back.

The white cloth thing was a hoax. I believe the cloth was polyester or some other non absorbent fabric. No way was it cotton.

I've never claimed to a customer that we would remove all the soil. Cleaning is always a matter of degree. Give me a filthy carpet and I'll make it look great but it won't be clean and probably won't pass a white cotton towel test. But they'll likely give me a great Google review when I'm done.

Ballsy guarantee to try to pull off, but I would not say impossible. It's all a numbers game.If you think you can pull in X-amount of additional business by promoting this guarantee (By setting you apart from your competitors), while at the same time limiting your redo's then you can pull it off. Before considering this idea any further, you would need to know what your success rate would be.If you were to perform this towel test yourself on your next 100 jobs, exactly as you would if this guarantee was active, what would your results be??How many would pass this test??How could you possibly "tweak" the results to increase yo.ur percentages??No need to consider this idea further until you have actual numbers in your head based on honest field testing.I would be curious to know how many would pass these standards.
One possitive thing is that there would be no return trip needed as I would think any issues would be corrected before leaving.

Stanley Steemer did it 30 years ago. Obviously a catchy advertising angle...that HAD to be dropped.

yep....it was Stanley Steemer who offered the "white glove" or "white towel" guarantee. Didn't last too long. It was just not possible to get no soil on a white towel after the SS method of cleaning. I would go into any job that any CC does, and will find some soil somewhere transfered onto a white cloth or glove. POSSIBLY on a brand new never used carpet, but not on one that has been soiled. Try padding with a white pad after a thorough HWE cleaning and see what you get.

For the longest time I've been wondering if Dave actually has a fine (somewhat goofy) sense of humor, or is he the poster boy of how not to do things?

If it is the second, this could be revolutionary and save us mega bucks. Instead of spending years learning how to do things the right way, all we have to do is find out how Dave does it and do the opposite .

Which is it?

P.S. And let it be known, that I own the exclusive rights to- "Dave", "Just like Dave" and "Unlike Dave".

Actually I had a client that had a 20 year old carpet. They lived in the country on a dirt road and hadn't had their carpet cleaned in 10 years. They wanted a re-clean because they wiped a white cloth on their carpet and thought they saw some soil on the cloth. So. It reminded me of that old white cloth guarantee and I wondered if anybody was still doing it.( I was venting a little.) I re-cleaned the carpet and post padded it with a bonnet. (There was no soil on the bonnet) Then main thing was PIA that I had to drive 20 miles and then wash my van because of the dust from the roads.

I can 100% guarantee I can come behind anyone of you and do my white cloth test and you will ALL FAIL as Steve said. You have all seen the trick right? Take a white towel place it over your vac hose spray some water on it and put it down on the carpet/couch/loveseat etc. I have only heard of it being used to upsell upholstery though. Just don't try the trick to prove how well you cleaned or you will have just worked for free. Try it at home if you have never done it. It is a great dog and pony show to sell upholstery. The lady of the home will gasp at how black the towel turns and there will be no way she will sit on the couch again until you clean it.
