Received this rug in. Fairly coarse wool about 40 Kps". The country the client thought it came from is not known as a rug making centre. Any thoughts on probable origin.

Thanks Bryan. Because we don't see the volume of rugs in Godzone that you guys in USA get I haven't encountered any Indian made ones in that sort of style. Majority that we see are Indian Aubussons. The clients were told it had come from Sth Africa.

It could be Persian, the fringe knots, the jaggy wool and the look of the back make me think of India.

Don't see the Aubusson style India much anymore. They were popular in the eighties. The more recent crop of Indo/Paki/Sino-Persians are much better copies and can be difficult to tell from the real thing.

The clients were told it had come from Sth Africa.
Might have, after it got there from India. You know, that Commonwealth thing.
