Ken has been gone for a couple of weeks now and I still get all choked up and teary eyed reading the things everyone is saying about him. I am sure he would be embarrassed to know we are all sitting around crying over him...
Time for some funny Ken stories!! I'll start with one of my favorite ones...
We got free tickets through one of our advertising reps to see a Detroit Lion's preseason game that included a pregame dinner. Ken was never one to turn down a free meal and a beer, so we enjoyed our food and a couple of beers. Eventually we made our way from the dinner area to our seats in the stadium. We weren't sitting down for more then a minute when Ken asked me if I really needed to stay and watch the game. (This was a few years ago when the Lions were even worse then they are today). He suggested it would be a lot more fun to go to one of the local casinos.
I had never been to this particular casino, so he had to show me around and we eventually settled at a crowded blackjack table. We were seated a few people away from each other and Ken right away starts chatting with this pretty woman next to him. I am winning and playing a bit reckless and winning a bit more because of it. As is always the unwritten rule, we are competing against each other. Because I am winning a bit, Ken is more reckless then he usually is. I keep seeing him pull money out of his wallet while the chips pile in front of me keeps slowly growing.
It's a Friday night and getting a bit late and I am scheduled to work the next morning, so I start gabbing at Ken that anytime he wants to leave, it's okay with me, especially since I still have a pile of the casinos money in front of me. We rode together in his car and I assumed he would want to get out of there before he lost even more money.
Ken had been getting pretty chummy with this woman next to him and says that I can take his car back to the office where i had left my car and leave it. The woman next to him had suggested that she will give him a ride because she didn't want him to leave.
I was feeling pretty good for myself and my friend. I had "beat him" playing blackjack since I cashed out $400.00 ahead and he had been pulling money out of his wallet all evening. And it looked like he might get lucky in a different kind of way.
Typical Ken.. he found a way to steal the high I was on for winning that money... the next day I find out that he had a fun time after I had left and ended up on a huge winning streak, cashing out more then $1200.00 up. He said he was just having fun, playing reckless and winning and winning. Of course then I had to concede to myself that Ken won again.
Oh and the woman next to him...she was just friendly, looking for someone friendly to play cards with and the ride home was just that, a ride home...
