What caused this?

Custy says it's from the bottom of a plant light (can style ) , NOT the UV bulb either, normal incandescent bulb, and it wasn't the bulb, was the electrical part in the bottom. :?

Any idea's?

No "feel" to it either.

Also no reason not to believe his story.

looks like a drip/drop of something spilled there and bleached out some of the dyes.

it is near/below a window?

maybe the house keeper's secret window washing sauce...

If I was a betting man.. he had a plant light of sorts over the area.. probably because he had a plant in it. I would also be willing to bed that if they took time for a plant light.. even if it was the incandescent plant type light... they would also take time to water and provide a small amount of plant food as well.

There are plenty of chems in here for indoor plant food to bleach carpets! Scroll to bottom of link for chemicals.

Call the local police. Obvious crime scene cover-up. Idiot should have used 40vol vs chlorine bleach to remove blood splatters from murder/ dismemberment. Did he indicate that "cost be damned" in effort to remove the stain? Was his wife "out of town"? Did he seem overly interested in such a small spot, way in the corner?

As was mentioned before. It looks like the homowner tried to remove a small rust spot with bleach and is playing dumb.

Take care,
Lisa
