Just Got Back From A WD Job.....

....at the WD company that I sub for. Owner stopped in his shop to do some paper work, and found his warehouse flooded, including stored items from fire jobs and other WD jobs. Funny thing....no broken pipes. I think the city water inlet backflow preventer malfunctioned.

Question......if water pressure is lost on the inlet side of the valve, would it release water already in the building pipes through the backflow preventer valve??

I'm just thinkin'......

Fred....had a customer with the same problem last year. The safety valve on the water tank would blow open at inopportune times....like when the guy wasn't home. Never happened when he was around. Newer house. The sump pit was only 8 feet away, but the water ran away from it, soaking the whole basement. I don't think some of todays contractors are paying attention to the slope of the basements when pouring the concrete floors.....or it seems.
