A woman had a couple of Navajo rugs encased in glass hanging on her wall today.

One was a Navajo Germantown and the other was a Navajo Sand Art. She said her Sand Art was extremely rare and from the 1890's.

Found this informative video explaining how to price them.

If your next question is how to clean those, Purple Power and your zipper should work wonders.

Shouldn't be displayed in glass unless professionally done

That's nuts...was this a case of bidders just screwing with each other just to make sure "i will get this rug"? Or is that more of a common value? I have seen many rugs worth a couple hundred grands but haven't come accross one that is over a mill..

Nevermind.....I just saw that this was a record setting case so that answers my question.

navajo's don't loose their value.... It was pretty awesome touring the Navajo Nation last fall. And to give you an idea, some of the larger : two grey hills and storms, were going for well over 10K brand new. Its truly a labor of love from sheep to yarn to the weaving. its all done by hand, one line at a time. And alll the yarn for the most part is still asll spun by hand in time honored traditions. Many Navajo families continue to make rugs for extended credit at fully functional trading posts.

"then you can keep your truckmounts warm with them on cold winter nights."

That worked out well.

Did my mother in laws wool area rug with SnG the other day. I'm gonna keep an eye on it to see if any browning problems. So far, she said it turned out great
