Meaning: overall pic of the front, close-up of a back corner to show end and side finishes as well as the construction. A close-up of the nap broken open will help.

In the included photo you can see the rows of the back of the rug run end to end. (Ignore the dark line, look at the indentation that you can feel with a fingernail. Typically that's an indication of hand-knotted rugs as the knots are tied around the vertical warp that becomes the end fringe. Machine-woven rugs will have that row going side to side unless the rug was woven sideways.

Why say typically? Because the hand-weavers are getting very crafty about making rugs on a loom that look like just about every other kind of rug on the market.

Hand-knotted version may take 6 months to make and will last 35 to 50 years. Hand-loomed version will take 4-5 days to make and last for 1 to 5 years. You can tear a hand-loomed rug in half with your hands. Typically.
