Do people waste too much time planning their marketing rathe

Do people waste too much time rather than getting an new ad out everyday and planning long term in spare time?
I send out letters and flyers everyday and perfect as I go. Would I be better off coming up with the greatest stragey ever or just throwing all kinds of shit against the wall til one works? I think flinging shit is the best as you develop what your consumer wants.
