I have been recently put in the Education Director position of our BNI group.
For the most part, the previous person would read 2 lines from some lame about.com article on networking.
What I have been doing is talking to the group about marketing their businesses. The response has been Awesome! So far covered the basics like Client Base marketing and Referral Systems. Everyone has been very engaged and ask ALOT of questions.
When it is then my turn to do the "60 Second Commercial", I usually spend the last few by saying--And I meant to mention this earlier when talking about_____...referrals, whatever--and throw in another point about the education topic of the day.
In the few short weeks I have taken this approach...we have received way more referrals from the group and several emails/calls about the topics discussed. Therefore making an impression on them.
Marketing through education is a powerful angle.
