I’m going to run this experiment in our service department.

The condition of filters, strainers, and recovery tank gaskets on many units we service makes me wonder how these companies remove any water at all when they clean.

For every “super sucker” out there who over wets carpet due to haste and a lack of caring, there are dozens more who “try”, but have such neglected machines that their work product suffers equally.
Reminds me of the time I bought a slide in truckmount with 300 hours on it for $1200 that the guy was complaining about lack of vacuum.
Upon inspecting it I started to remove the waste tank lid.
Guy said, what are you looking in there for? Nothing in there.
I just said load it up.
