It took me awhile to get the concept, "Their emergency is not my emergency".
I just charge higher than normal.

I rarely do a same day customer. Don't usually have the time. The odd one is usually because some other carpet cleaner couldn't make it and they have all their furniture moved. Had one the other day. Rental building, the regular carpet cleaner has the master key to the suites. They came and cleaned his next door neighbor by mistake.

I love it when they go through all their rigmarole, finally persuade me that I have time to do it today, yet when their hear my price, oh, I have to talk to my wife. Can I call you back? I always say no, if you don't book right now, I have something else to do.

If it wasn't such a crappy day outside today with rain and such I would have said no to the one landlord who just called me needing it done of course.
So I'm going to go take care of this one room and charge premium price.
We did turn down other jobs though for this weekend just because there was no way we could accomplish a couple of the larger homes that they just decided to put their house on the market and needed it done Sunday.... Called us late Saturday...
Slummy landlord is going to get his done which is going to be an easy $175 for a total hours work including the drive and set up... Oh yeah and I will clean the carpet too

I've found that same days usually procrastinated till the last minute and need it done ASAP and never really bitch about price because they're out of options.
Depending on the situation, but for the most part I don't do them. Even if I am busy fishing. I am sorry I am busy today.

I picked up a nice one last year when a cleaner was a no show at a doggie grooming place. I went after hours and impressed the owner who happened to live in a million dollar home that she also had me clean in.

depends on the circumstance, some get caught out
Here landlords have to give 24hrs min notice for an inspection, bad landlords/tenants are usually the cause of same day requests for me

On average, we do a couple per day. A lot of what we get are pet (or human) accidents. Most of the people calling are repeat customers and have had an emergency need at their home. If we can't get to them, they will call someone else.

Or just today a lady called............I have a seat cushion from my couch that the dog peed on...........I need it done this afternoon! Not the whole couch but just ONE seat cushion.
Or last friday............. a lady calls to have a piss infested 4 x 6 walmart rug cleaned. Shoot out a min price.............."Oh it's only a small rug why so much? " "I think I will get back to you"

I love those customers with last minute emergency carpet cleaning jobs. They call you at the end of the day and tell you they have family coming over next day. Or the ones that need it on long weekends after having felt it was time to clean after not having the carpets cleaned in 10 years. And they usually start the call with how much?

We got a call in the middle of the night a while ago. They wanted us to come right out to clean up used Jack Daniels. That's right, they drank it and it came back up....

The ones that never cease to amaze me are the ones that call at noon and say, "we are moving out today and need to get the carpet cleaned". I mean come on they knew they were moving before move out day. Worse still, " Can you come finish up our carpet cleaning ? My wife did most of it with her Bissel but some areas need a professional Job. " I always insist on cleaning the whole place if we do it.
