Customer had a glass sliding door broken all over the carpet.
I find myself hesitant to agree to guarantee that I will be able to remove all the glass from the carpet.

What would you do to try to eliminate near 100% of the glass particles ?

I did a commercial job similar. Car crashed through a window of (can you believe it) an insurance store. Let them know the best option is replacement. Used a combination of shop vac and pile lifter to remove the glass and finished with Panasonic commercial vacuum. Had no complaints. They signed off on the fact that we couldn't guaranty 100 percent removal

com establishment where low loop pile is the norm and folks never go barefoot is one thing
res is a whole 'nother can of worms

tempered glass shatters into a kabillion little pieces and tiny shard slivers
and if a slider, it was tempered glass ..it's the law

If cut pile, no way in hell you'll get it all out ...to give any kind of assurance of such, you'd be either stupid or ignorant ...or both

You are aware I am sure of the joke that the only thing we can guarantee is......
Right?

Here is how you help them decide:

AS SOON AS YOU TOUCH IT, ITS YOUR PROBLEM. Mrs. Smith, ‘ yes, hi, is this the carpet cleaner?, oh, I was just calling to say, it’s been 8 months, and I’ve got to go for surgery, I went to my doctor, and I’ve had a piece of glass stuck in my foot, and it’s worked it’s way into the nerve, and I’ve lost all feeling in that foot’..... ‘my doctor said to call you for you’re lawyers number’.....a little dramatic? SURE... plausible? ABSOLUTELY....

I was sitting in a Krystal Hamburger shop watching two guys fight. One threw the other through a plate glass window. I saw it all and couldn’t detect any cuts on him.

I went to do a few units for a PM. His arm was bandaged from wrist to elbow. He told me he was helping his son replace a large picture window , things went sideways, and he had 36 staples.... he told me that if his son wasn’t there to administer FA, he would have bled to death. He passed out 30 seconds after it happened..... brutal....

I'm sure there's still plenty out there

I tried to find when fed regs made it a requirement
Looks like '77 it became a fed mandate

and in Los Anglos since '65
with the city requiring older homes sold be brought into compliance

anyone that's seen and cleaned up shattered temped glass would know the challenge of vac'ing 40 pounds of rice scattered on a cut pile

If I was Zee, I'd suggest they contact their ins agent .
In the mean time, tell them to shop vac first for an hour
then upright vac for 6 hours and 37 minutes in 27 different directions, stopping to clean filters every 9 minutes 17 seconds

.....then call Ron Wernner to finish vac'ing

while they wait for ins to replace their slider and carpet

do I think it tremendous risk that someone will get gangrene from a sliver not removed??
Nah
No more than I think someone will die of bacterial infection if their poopie toilet overflows on their bathroom carpet

But as pro for hire, would "I" clean it up without a bulletproof waiver?
Nope ...and would be folly to do so

We pickup the big pieces with leather gloves and put them in a box. Using a tank vacuum and crevice tool we go over everything we can see using a high intensity lamp. We the vacuum overall with turobcat vac attachment on the tank vacuum.

This is not a once over but a crossing pattern, once complete in one direction. Lastly we HWE.

This is done with the explanation of no guarantee. But we will do as good as we can with replacement your only other alternative. Some replace at a convenient date, some never do.

*Glass fragments aren't just on the carpet. We vacuum upholstery and use a brush head to vacuum wood furniture and hard surfaces before they are wipped down.
