Reading the ongoing thread petaining to Nylon carpet, this is in that category, but different. !!

My son wanted to know what kind of carpet to get. Of course I counseled him to get nylon.
Which he did. 60 oz. solution dyed BCF..
Too bad it was from Home Depot. Install is piss poor. Of course he had me come over and look.
Bad seam right down the middle of the liv room. The edges ovelapped!!!!
Their install came out and admitted it looked bad, and tried to fix it , which he did not.

He is getting all new.

Ask if they power stretch. If they say yes, ask them to describe their power stretcher.
Funny you say that. I told him to be sure they use one.. He said they did. BUT after the install his floor is squeaking very badly. Hardwood floor under the carpet.

He also asked me what the thing was on the end of the tube.. They used the spike, not a foot against an oppoite wall.
He thinks the preassure did something to the flooring underneath. !!!

I dont tell my customers this but honestly why install carpet lol, I did vinyl plank.
And you wonder why you don't have any friends. Why install carpet? Its soft and cushiony on your feet, comfortable to lay on while watching tv, insulates your floor and cuts down on heating/cooling, helps to sound proof your house, traps dust at floor level so you are not breathing it. Just needs regular HEPA filtered vacuuming and cleaning once in a while.

And it soaks up urine better than any plank.

Home Depot and lowes across the country have been switching to large install companies instead of local independent contractors. My dad got let go as a Lowe’s flooring installer after 23 years. The new installers are all 19-22 year old kids getting 12$ an hour

When home Depot first came to BC years ago, they insisted that you have a power stretcher if you wanted to install for them. I sold a Crain power stretcher to one of their contractors. They were offering a lifetime warranty on the installation. They quickly realized that nobody else was power stretching and stopped it themselves and reduced their warranty to one year.

The 2 Lowes stores my dad subbed for went with an installation company that is 45 miles away. One guy does all the measuring and there are a bunch of crews that are hourly workers that do the labor. The local home depot hires a measuring service to do all the flooring estimates. Once the job is sold then its shipped to the sole subcontractor and his office does the scheduling and he has hourly employees do the jobs. My dad does a few installs for the guy if they are local and he doesn't want to pay his guys driving time. These crews are beyond hacks. No idea what a stretcher is.

My dad was installing carpet in a basement and the customer requested that no nails be pounded into the french drain. He called the office to tell them that he's going to have to liquid nail the tackstrip ( which we have done in the past ) and he was going to charge the cost of the materials and a charge for having to wait 3 days for the liquid nail to cure. The owner tells my dad that its overkill to use liquid nail, and a hot glue gun would work fine, just don't kick it very hard lol... This is the owner of this train wreck business which handles 100% flooring installs for the home depot. Another good one is he sent his crew out to restretch a hall way and to save time he wanted his guys to use double sided tape instead of seaming the doorways
