I was taken by ambulance Monday afternoon to the hospital. It appears that I may have had a heart attack. The elevated enzymes are the primary indicator . I am scheduled for a exploratory catheter procedure later today.

Anyways. I thought I'd give an update. Wish me luck

Kathy had a heart attack a year and a half ago (she's only 41!).

Her doctor told her this:

"In most cases, I tell my patients to do three things: Lose weight, get more exercise, and stop smoking. In your case I will tell you three things: 1. Stop smoking. 2. Stop smoking 3. Stop smoking!"

I don't know what your health situation is, but she has followed the doctors orders since and has been doing great, and because of a healthier lifestyle, is doing even better than before.

I hope it will be that way for you Greg.

Smoking? You have to quit, you also need to relax more, you're way too stressed. Delegate more, more time off, even if only for a hours a day.

Get well soon, Greg! At 60 years old, I think about that very situation every day! Some days, I feel a tweek or a twinge that I didn't have the day before. Concerns me, but I keep in shape as best I can. Listen to your Dr!!

Greg, I just had a Heart Cath performed yesterday. It's kind of cool watching your heart beat live on the monitor if they let you watch. Make sure to take it easy for a couple of days afterward. I think the worst part is pulling off the bandage the nexst day though i think my wife was enjoying the job of removing it.

Nothing too much for the procedure you're likely going to have. I had it done in 95 and I'm still in working order. They insert a catheter in your thigh and follow it with a "guide wire" to your heart. If needed, they then push open the artery with a balloon and may or may not install a "stent", depending on plaque build up.You'll need to seriously look at changing your lifestyle and eating habits and reducing stress levels.

Best of luck Greg. I was in the hospital 48 hours until I got my stent. 48 hours and they never told me I'd have to choose between a coated stent, or a non- coated stent until I was going in for the procedure. I got the coated since I had insurance at the time and you have to take Plavics for at least a year with the coated. I'd go non-coated now.

I would also give up the ciggies; I haven't smoked since I left high school at 14.

I would also be looking at a complete, but gradual, change of lifestyle & eating habits.

Now be a good boy and listen to what you're told, then get back here where we all miss you.

Unm Steve - dumb doesn't wash well with smokers that clean for their supper. I agree, if Greg smokes he needs to quit, but last time I checked it was a legal act.
