But for the owner/ops that are out there cleaning, I'm sure you are tuned in to the sounds your TM makes. If I'm in earshot of the TM, I can hear the changes when the APO turns on, when the diverter closes. So I always listen for changes in engine sound and tone. Once in a while, some lawncare company or a neighbor starts up their equipment, and the interfering tones make me stop to listen if it's MY TM thats sounding funny. Happened yesterday....a lawncare company started up their equipment and it was just driving me nuts. Kept hearing the opposing engines dualing with each other. Thought it might be my TM. Then another neighbor started up his cycle, and that engine was fighting with mine. Just something an owner would do that has been running TM's for 30+ years. I'm not sure if carpet techs pay that much attention to a machine thats not theirs.........maybe many do treat their equipment as their own. Back to work.....

I don't think they do, I hear a change in pitch and I check to see what's up or send a tech to shut the unit down because it is dieseling from the liquid level shut off. They just keep cleaning ignorant to the sound of the motor.

Did I say ignorant? Freudian slip perhaps. :winky:

No Porkchop, I wasn't talking about you. So just shut your yap!

It's like Music to me.

Big Trucks rumbling through always get me going. : ( Must be the vibration making me think the rig has grenaded.

I know what you are talking about. I am probably not quite as weird as yOU are, but I tend to be tuned into things myself.

Today, we were cleaning tile and carpet on this job. My Son was cleaning the M/Bath tile and then the carpet in the MBR. He forgot to turn the pressure down from 900 psi to 500 psi when he stopped cleaning the tile and started onto the carpet. He was about halfway done in the MBR when I just sorta "knew" SOMETHING wasn't right. My sixth sense just told me something. I went out to the truck and looked things over and noticed the pressure gauge sitting on 900. Of course I turned it down to 500, but it just seems to ME he should have remembered to DO IT HIS-SELF!

There was a day about 3 years ago that I was cleaning in a medical building, out of earshot of the TM. One minute things are just going great, next thing I know, no vacuum, but still pressure at the wand. Man, I ran down 3 flights of stairs, expecting to see smoke. All I could hear was "clanking" ......the input shaft on the Genesis finally gave out, but truck was just speeding along. Engine turning, blower not! Luckily I had extra drive parts from my "parts" machine. But it was a timely repair....maybe about 6 hours to tear into, R&R the parts, put back together. Not much room in back of a Chevy van and a Genesis 59.

Also The other morning I was leaving to go out for coffee and I could hear The roar of a TM, i could not see it but I knew what it was so I had to drive around till I found it the next street over. They had a 360i sitting out by the van all alone.

When I first got my WM I was spooked by sounds like landing airplanes at the local airport which would make a dissimilar harmonic vibration creating anxiety for me, but after listening to my Pro1200 for 25000 hours make the same droning sound I don't worry about it. It's either on or it's off, and it's pretty rare that it would stop. Once I ran out of gas on an overlong job and I had to borrow a gallon of gas from the custy. Felt like a ********. Once the computer puked and shut the truck down, and once the serpentine belt broke and snapped the power wire under the hood. That was my fault, I saw the belt was frayed a few months before.

You are not the only one. I feel very uncomfortable if I can not hear the sweet sound of my truck in the background. It is very delightful and soothing to hear the RPM's go up and down as I suck.

Hey Art, is that 25,000 hrs on only 1 WM pro 1200? So I have only spent 1/3 of it's life so far?

That's on the two I've owned Chris. The 03 I use now should be good 'til 2023 if the Chevy doesn't start rusting.

That's the phrase I was looking for ......"dissimilar harmonic vibration"........drives me friggin' crazy.
