Here's the scenario.

Old nylon carpet that has faded badly.

Many areas that are dark blue, and various different shades, where furniture has been.

Most of the carpet though is a dirty grey looking colour.

The tenant dropped a teflon coated iron briefly on the carpet.

The fibres have not melted, but it has left a dirty brown imprint not unlike an elongated horse shoe.

Carpet from the wardrobe cannot be used as this is still a dark blue.

There are no donor pieces to be had.

How would you fix this problem :?:

Ooroo,

How far has the mark imprinted the carpet? if not very far and the carpet is not all that great to begin with.. I pull out my magic wand. (napping shears) or pile carver and take off the top portion of browned out fiber.

Ditto David's comments and once you've shaved off enough of the bunred fibers, rough it up a bit with a pumice stone to match the surrounding carpets level of fuzzyness and adjust the color with your solid dye sticks.
