why is it cheeper to buy 4 one gallon bottles than it is to buy 1 five gallon pail of yore protector???

4 Gallon Case - -$122.95 (30.73/gal)
5 Gallon only - $154.95 - (30.99/gal.)

I'd say because it costs him more to ship the larger bucket. He looks at it at a pure cost aspect when selling not a volume aspect when selling at a discount. Although I don't have his cost figures in front of me to confirm this....

Material- wise, a bucket ("pail") does cost more than 4 bottles and a box.

UPS charges more to ship a bucket, too, unless the shipper puts it into a box, which runs the cost up more.

It's cheaper to put it in a box than it is to pay the extra 10 bucks....a box can't cost more than 2 bucks.

Danny;

I'm glad you're are looking at both of the prices :) .

The difference (26 cents/gallon) was due to an additional charge for a 5 Gal. double wall box (UPS resistant I hope).

The regular price is $32.95/gal. for a case of 4 gal.

The regular price is $159.95 (31.99/gal.) for a 5 gal. pail.

So you save money.....
either way.

nothing is UPS proof

I worked fo UPS part time for awhile out High School. We kicked the hell out of those boxes. Then I grew up and figured out that is a crapy thing to do. We unloaded those rigs in record time.

UPS charges additional handling for anything that isn't in a box. That is why a bucket gets the extra charge.

Ask any UPS driver what he would rather pick up, a 40lb. box or a 40lb pail and all will say a pail. Boxing a pail is the stupidest thing UPS came up with.
I know, it's easier on them loading and packing boxes for shipment.
