My vac doesn't kick in immediately at the start of my machine, but when it does I have never had a problem. The hesitation is a few seconds and once I needed to throttle the engine and it kicked right in. Should I worry or go business as usual.
Again I haven't had any problem since I noticed it but I get nervous each job is this the one I have to pull the porty out.

Hows the condition of the belts or coulper. Can you check the shaft for any play. Keep a daily check on the blower oil and grease.
sometimes the belts seem to be in good condition when they are actually bad. Had that happen before and changed belts. Ok then

Hesitation

I had a Hydromaster CDS in a Dodge that did that. It turned out it was just the vacuum pods coming off the motor. Were I come from we have cold and hot extremes between the seasons, I need to check it every six months.
