I remember back in my early years in my cleaning business – back when I had still a full head of hair – operating as a sole operator, doing all the cleaning jobs by myself. OK you caught me… part of that sentence wasn’t exactly true – I can’t remember a time in business when I had a full head of hair. But I clearly remember being at a fork in the road stressing over whether I should hire employees for my growing business.

A great read, especially for someone "at the crossroads".

It's even made me wonder if I should look at employing someone to run one of my businesses until the economy improves and I put it on the market to sell.

In a previous life, I had around 60 cleaners working for me, then in a another business, only 11.

Believe it or not, with the area I was in, the job with 11 was bloody stressful with people not turning up, or suddenly leaving.

Most people seeking work were back-packers, and it cost me a fortune in training, uniforms, insurance, etc;

I thoroughly agree with Rick's assessment that choosing the right employees is crucial.
