We had a customer call yesterday and claimed her wedding ring was missing from a bag in her armoire. There was other jewelry in that bag, but it was just the wedding ring that was stolen. She was running around a bit before we arrived and it was one of the things she would usually put away.

She knows it was stolen and that she didn't misplace because she checked in with her psychic and the psychic said the ring was no longer in her house. :hopeless:

She says she suspects it might have been the crew leader as he was alone in that room cleaning and didn't notice the assistant in there alone. The crew leader has been with us for 15 years and the assistant has been with us for 2. The assistant's dad has been with us for 37 years and is our senior crew leader , his uncle has been with us for 32 years and is our Director of Operations. Oh and his cousin works for us too. I am 100% sure that we didn't take it.

She wanted us to just pay her for the ring...

We told her to file a police report and that we would cooperate in the investigation. I wonder how long it will be until she finds the ring where she left it.

When we had a cleaning company, that was always the first thing we would do. When the people found out that their children would be questioned, it was surprising how many times the kids miraculously "found" the missing items. The cops always said that kids use the presence of strangers in the home as a chance to loot their parent's goods.

My guess its the same, or worse, today.

Just a couple of years ago a customer of ours (carpet cleaner) got called out to clean upholstery.

The people asked if his cleaning would remove "holy oil"

The reason?

They had had an exorcism in their home, and were worried that if he cleaned out the holy oil the demons might come back to the home.

He wisely declined the job.

I had a guy accuse me of stealing his wallet and he couldn't pay me because that's where the cash was. I told him I would call the cops for him. I got paid and still clean for his widowed wife.
If I ever get accused of anything I will be the one calling the cops. It's funny how fast the story changes then.

I would've charged a premium.

That happened to me once...
The lady was hysterical and was sure we took a small bag of jewelry...
A few weeks later she called and confessed that she forgot she hid it cuz relatives were coming from out of town....

That's what I asked!!

As far as TV remotes... we had a woman accuse us of stealing a remote from a 10 year old TV. She had the TV in a guest bedroom and she knows it was there the day before we got there because she used the TV when she was in there doing some cleaning. I told her that it was highly unlikely that we did steal it and could she maybe check to see if might be with her cleaning supplies. She never called back.

Last year a commercial client of mine that owns around 50 apartments we clean each spring called me to say that I probably took his upholstery tool (complete POS tool ill add) and to look around in my truck for it. I replied that I wouldn’t be looking because I don’t have his tool and would never ever use that low quality of a tool for anything in my business :icon_cool:. He sent texts at least 2 other times throughout the year telling me to check my shop and truck again. I ignored the texts. Just last week while I was cleaning he told me a “funny story” about how he just found his POS upholstery tool in a tool box.:hopeless:

Two weeks ago... Cabin in the Northwoods rented out.

Women that stayed there claims she left her ring on a bed head board.

Terrible to no cell reception.

We got a message than no cell tower again unless find sweet spot in upper kitchen.

We looked, even tore bed apart to look... Looked all over all three levels.

When finished and got to main road and Cell received text to do not clean... Well too late!

Pulled over and called... Let them know we didn't find anything. Told them I would pull the filter (which was fresh) and reassured that we probably couldn't suck a ring through the wand.

Owner of ring now suspect of us 😕...

Bit of uncomfortable moments....

Suddenly next day... Received a text... The ring was found... At their home 🙄

Had a lady accuse me of breaking an end table , had a hole on the side and there was hockey equipment all through the house

My guess is one of the kids did it with a hockey puck and turned it around

We moved it and blocked it with styrofoam as we had moved it out

“Ma’am I assumed you knew and if I was going to hide it I wouldn’t have blocked it so you would make the discovery

All she said was she couldn’t prove it so she let it slide

I try to move as little as possible now and preface the explanation with how we don’t want to damage their possessions

I have a reverse tale

I forgot a fan at a customer home that flooded aeveral times

They decided to take possession of one of my blowers and denied it

Found it during next cleaning and took it back

Haven’t cleaned for the thieves since ....
