@ronbeatty , @bob vawter doesn't remember it, and maybe you don't either - but you two met at Winterfest at Pemberton's when you brought your trucks back in '09. We were both checking out the trucks there and you were showing us the customizing you had done. I know some of the things you asked for ended up becoming standard with the newer Aerotechs. Also since it's been a decade since you've met, Bawb should man up and make the trip.

ya NOW i remember..
he was a blowhard back then as well......

Why don’t you take Bawbs place for the final speaker this year Steve?

You’re a good conduit between us old guys and the new bucks

I would consider it but haven't a clue what I'd talk about that wouldn't make everyone's eyes glaze over. I learned in Nashville to stay away from anything tech related. Only thing I can think of is explain the changes I've seen over the last 12 years and what I expect to happen in the next 2-5.

The predictions I made in Nashville pertaining to Google and this new millennial type of client have all happened and then some.

I don’t need a “conduit” like both you Phreds do.
You’re both assholes.

You've already got enough conduit crammed in you we don't need you anymore pissy. The only explanation for that is it probably takes a left handed screwdriver to remove and you're still trying to figure it out.

Idiot.

I don't mind millennials.

I think you are just screaming for a hug.

Guys next time you see Fred Boyle at a fest be sure to give him a hug. Introduce yourself, tell him you love him and regularly read his posts on MB. He might shy away at first but he will truly appreciate it.

I had a cleaner ask me last week how many jobs I do per day. I told him I try not to do more than 2. I really don’t like to work more than 4 hours or so, but will if need be. Of course no nights or weekends. I even say no to late afternoon.

I started a Steam cleaning business in August 1970 at 20 and will be 69 in September, so I will be entering my 49th year in August. I have always done my own work without a helper. Really nothing wrong with me physically except that I get tired and achy from cleaning. Usually feel better the next morning after a night’s rest.

Lately I think more and more about retiring. If some young buck who didn’t mind a little physical work would come along and buy me out, I would probably give up my life long dream to make it to my 50th year as a self employed owner/operator steam cleaner. LOL :)

Good question. :headscratch: Steve Toburen would probably say it’s not sellable since you are selling a job. But going to college is also essentially buying a job.

Still there is a lot of equipment, tools, chems, etc. that have some value, and a clientele that worries I will retire soon and has a decent lifetime value. If I quit, someone has to fill the void, so it might as well be someone who can take over for me.

The business is not worth what it once was. No marketing in years. But inexpensive marketing to our customer list would likely yield very good results. I just don’t want any more work at this time in my life so I even turn down work or talk some inquiries out of hiring me if I deem them undesirable or a possible no win situation.

I had a customer I was cleaning for who had a young son living at home and she asked him what he thought about carpet cleaning. He said it looked like I was working pretty hard. I have a feeling it may not be real easy to find a younger guy who is willing to do physical work. :(

Back to the question. My wife thinks the business is worth more than I do, but I think someone would be in good shape if they bought our business now that it is at its low value point.

Make me an offer. :)

PS. I often think it would be better if I sold out to a person who has never cleaned carpet before and that could be trained in. To many bad habits to overcome with those cleaners already set in their ways.

Radar I won't tell you how many times you've upset me enough that I began crying out of control staring at my screen. So much so that my wife had to come in and console me...............And being the wonderful woman she is.......she took me out of the room.............led me to my recliner......put a blanket across my legs. Asked if I wanted a bowl of ice cream.........and I said , "Make sure you put some peanuts and chocolate sauce on it" She said , "Sure daddy anything for my man". Then she giggled.

YOU SEE ASSHOLE YOU CAN'T HURT ME ANYMORE!
I AM LOVED AND YOU'RE A MISERABLE COCKSUCKER!

Your should advertise for someone who would want to take it over. You want to set a fair price for the assets and determine what the good will is. The right person, if he works with you, should be able to retain a good percentage of your customers.

ah shit, B Savage beat me to the punch. I was gonna say I "used" to complain about being solo and my aches and pains. Since knowing Bob I have never done it since. I'm 56 and 2-3 a day. No help, I'd probably abuse him/her verbally anyhow.

Between Bob Savage and Jack Zerkie, none of us have much to complain about yet.

Damn good thread, one of the better threads in a long time.

We are all getting old I’m 36 already and have to go to the chiropractor weekly.

I try not to do even 1 job a day but sometimes life happens and I have to work.

You are right. If I want to sell I really should do something about it. I will probably hang in there another year or so and then get to putting the business up for sale.

Getting to 50 years in the Bizz is an automatic entry into the CC Hall of Fame.

Maybe even Legend.

Hopeful everything works out well for you Loren
